Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) is a Transport Canada-certified Response Organization dedicated to protecting BC’s coast from marine oil spills. Our team is committed to environmental stewardship, operational excellence, and ensuring a state of readiness to respond to emergencies. We are seeking a dedicated Regional Operations Manager, VI to oversee operations within the region and ensure the readiness of our facilities, vessels, equipment, and personnel.
About the Role
As the Regional Operations Manager, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring operational efficiency and readiness at all response bases within your region. This leadership position requires exceptional organizational skills, the ability to manage diverse teams, and a commitment to safety and environmental protection.
Key Responsibilities
- Operational Readiness: Ensure all response bases on Vancouver Island, facilities, vessels, and equipment in your region meet operational standards and are ready for deployment.
- Training & Development: Oversee training plans for base personnel, contractors, and vessels, ensuring readiness through quarterly exercises and documentation.
- Emergency Preparedness: Lead regional exercise drills, manage resources, and successfully execute tasks during certification exercises in alignment with the Oil Spill Response Plan.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Build and maintain strong relationships with local governments, emergency planners, harbor masters, First Nations, and other stakeholders involved in spill response.
- Leadership: Provide direction to Base Managers and regional staff, fostering a culture of safety, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Recruitment: Work with HR to recruit, interview, and select senior operations personnel.
- Safety & Compliance: Demonstrate and enforce workplace safety practices, ensuring all policies are followed rigorously.
- Budget Oversight: Manage the regional operational budget, ensuring cost-effective decision-making and accurate forecasting.
- Collaboration: Share best practices with other Regional Operations Managers and synchronize activities to enhance organizational performance.
- Incident Response: Act in assigned roles during spill responses as per the Incident Command System (ICS).
What We’re Looking For
- Education & Experience: Post-secondary degree or diploma, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 10-15 years of business experience, with 5-7 years in a mid- to senior-level operations management role.
- Leadership Skills: Proven ability to lead teams, manage resources, and influence a positive work environment.
- Technical Proficiency: Strong MS Office skills and experience with operational software and mobile devices.
- Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with environmental management, emergency response, or marine operations is an asset.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication abilities to effectively manage internal teams and external stakeholders.
- Detail-Oriented: Highly organized with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage shifting priorities.

Salary: $138,859 – $163,363 per annum
