Marine Spill Response Technician

How it Works?

Every summer, WCMRC hires women interns to work as deckhands at one of our six response bases – Burnaby, Nanaimo, Victoria, Beecher Bay, Port Alberni or Prince Rupert. The four-month position is a full-time paid position. Interns will gain valuable work experience in the marine sector and insight into how spill response works on Canada’s West Coast.

Who is Eligible?

Applicants should have a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license. Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine Emergency Duties (MED A1/A3) certificate and Radio Operators Certificate (ROCM) are considered assets. Candidates should be physically fit for work at sea in calm and rough waters. You must also be willing and able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions.

The four-month (May – August) summer job is a full-time paid position. Interns will gain valuable work experience in the marine sector and insight into how spill response works on Canada’s West Coast.

Who is Eligible?

Applicants should have a high school diploma and a valid driver’s license. Small Vessel Operator Proficiency (SVOP), Marine Emergency Duties (MED A1/A3) certificate and Radio Operators Certificate (ROCM) are considered assets. While there is no age limit for the role, candidates should be physically fit for work at sea in calm and rough waters. You must also be willing and able to work outdoors in extreme weather conditions. Those wishing to apply must be Indigenous (First Nations status or non-status, Métis, Inuit). The internship is open to all ages who meet the hiring criteria.
