WCMRC takes part in cross-border training

The week of August 12-16, WCMRC crews headed south to Washington State to take part in the Northwest Oil Spill Control Course (NWOSCC) put on by Texas A&M University. The five-day event took place at the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) Air Station in Port Angeles and involved both in-class and on-water training.

The training was hosted by USCG and was attended by Marine Spill Response Corporation (MSRC), Global Diving & Salvage, Clean Rivers Cooperative, ECM Marine Services and WCMRC.

Shoreline training included shoreline protection and flushing, as well as testing three geographical response plans. The on-water training involved WCMRC’s Burrard Cleaner No. 9 & No. 4 and MSRC’s Shearwater & Park Responder.

Rob Robinson, WCMRC Health, Safety & Training Manager, gave a presentation on responder safety, air operations safety and emergency medical equipment.

The training allows responders from different organizations and jurisdictions to become familiar with vessels, equipment and procedures if co-operation on a spill is required in the future.
