WCMRC recently partnered with the Preparing Our Home program to train youth in spill response. Preparing Our Home is a community-based resilience planning program. The program enables Indigenous youth to reach their potential in becoming emergency preparedness leaders in their communities. The training was part of WCMRC’s Coastal Response Program.
During the workshop in Ahousaht, WCMRC, demonstrated spill response equipment, shoreline protection strategies and Shoreline Cleanup Assessment Technique. Participants had the opportunity to work with WCMRC’s Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicle (ROV) and learn how to collect shoreline information using a shoreline oiling summary form.
