A WCMRC crew from Vancouver Island was dispatched to Victoria Harbour on Friday to assist with clean-up after a barge, owned by Seaspan, tilted sending as many as 100 flattened cars, hot water tanks and other scrap metal into the waterway. The barge was being operated by Schnitzer Steel, a scrap-metal recycling company in the Rock Bay area.
WCMRC crew, two vessels and one work truck were dispatched to the spill over the course of the weekend.
It’s not yet known what caused the barge to tilt. No one was injured in the incident.
