Senior Manager, Engineering and Maintenance

Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) is a Transport Canada certified Response Organization, whose mandate is to ensure there is a state of preparedness in place and to mitigate the impact when an oil spill occurs. This includes the protection of wildlife, economic and environmental sensitivities, and the safety of both the responders and the public.

We are looking for a Senior Manager, Engineering and Maintenance to work out of our Corporate Head Office located in Burnaby B.C.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a >$3M plus salaries annual operating budget and related capital budget.
  • Fleet manager for the vehicle fleet, including acquisition, leasing, purchasing, outfitting, and disposal.
  • Ensure correct scheduled maintenance is completed on time for all assets.
  • Manage running maintenance, refit plans, and dry dockings for vessel fleet.
  • Ensure vessels meet Transport Canada regulations and Class society rules.
  • Plan specifications for major vessel work years in advance in consultation with Operations.
  • Develop 5-year capital plans factoring in life cycle estimates.
  • Implement a long-term maintenance strategy and develop on the fly strategies as major maintenance events occur.
  • Form the Engineering component of vessel build or major equipment committees.
  • Oversee owner’s representation and Project Management for vessel builds and major dockings.
  • Control the change management and documentation process for vessel modifications.
  • Provide support to the Training department in the development of technical aspects of course content.
  • Provide technical support to the Safety department in accident investigations, development of engineering controls, procedures, and general technical knowledge.
  • Equipment warranty management.
  • Perform internal quality inspections.
  • Support in training of Spill Technicians in the performance of maintenance duties.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of technical documentation and procedures.
  • Support the implementation and operation of Safety Management System.
  • Support audits or inspections performed by regulatory agencies or class societies.
  • Specification and purchasing of parts, products, tooling, and services for repair and maintenance activities.
  • Initiate technical solutions to major issues that may involve consultants, contracted services, new projects, or the design of new equipment.
  • Provide safe, prompt and efficient support to spill incidents, exercises and preparedness projects.
  • Report major E&M activities and KPIs to the Director, Engineering and Maintenance.

To be successful in this role you will possess a post-secondary degree in a relevant Engineering discipline or a First-Class Marine Engineering certificate, a minimum of 5 years proven track record of successfully managing a Maintenance department and a solid understanding of the concepts and functions of a Computerized Maintenance Management System. Marine industry experience will be an asset.

In addition, you are an experienced leader of multi-functional teams with strong communications and computer skills with the ability to effectively utilize MS Office applications, mobile devices, and a strong aptitude for technology. You are comfortable working in environments ranging from the boardroom, to the industrial, to the field, and bring solid experience with budget development, management, and cost control with a history of success. A Class 5 Drivers License is required.

Salary range: $ 126,235  148,512 annually.
