Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) is a Transport Canada certified Response Organization, whose mandate is to ensure there is a state of preparedness in place and to mitigate the impact when an oil spill occurs. This includes the protection of wildlife, economic and environmental sensitivities, and the safety of both the responders and the public.
We are currently seeking a Communications Coordinator for our Corporate Head Office located in Burnaby B.C.
Principal Accountabilities
- Support the development and execution of communication initiatives that support business goals, while reflecting WCMRC’s business and communication priorities, mission, vision and values.
- Identify and action internal and external opportunities to communicate change and share successes within the organization.
- Build an understanding of the business environment and potential risks, to support the organization with issues management and reputational challenges.
- Provide communication support to all WCMRC departments on department initiatives.
- Respond to public requests for information and assist with the delivery of coastal community communication initiatives.
- Work with industry partners on communication strategies and messaging on shared issues and represent WCMRC at industry events.
- Support company participation and involvement at community events, ie conferences and workshops.
- Provide support in the management of external contractors, including graphic designers, writers, website developers and event planners.
- Write and edit a variety of documents including collateral, such as media releases, articles, speaking notes, website content and regular social content.
- Work in accordance with all legal requirements, attend and complete all required health and safety training, report all accidents, and take all necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.
Successful candidates will possess
- A completion of a post-secondary degree or diploma, with specialization in marketing, communications, journalism, or a related discipline or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of three years of communications experience, preferably with a focus on internal and corporate communications.
- Superior verbal and written communication skills, detail oriented and dependable.
- Demonstrated experience managing social media platforms, particularly Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and LinkedIn.
- Experience managing a CMS, particularly WordPress.
- Experience in social media and website analytics, particularly Google Analytics, Meta Business Suite and Twitter Analytics an asset.
Additionally, you will need to be a collaborative team player who is able to manage changing priorities, have keen attention for details, and be experienced and comfortable with public speaking.
