WCMRC would like to congratulate the recipients of our 2024/2025 post-secondary scholarships: Heather Dean, Sonja Noringseth, and Morgan Kereliuk.
Heather is currently working towards her Post Baccalaureate Bachelor of Education at Vancouver Island University. As a mother of two young children, she is an active participant in the parental advisory committee (PAC) at their school. She also volunteers at La Leche Lague Canada. Heather is a firm believer that communities can not survive and thrive on only paid supports and programs. Volunteering her time is both a way to give back to her community and set a positive example for her two children.
Sonja was recently accepted into Simon Fraser University’s Criminology Program. In her free time, she volunteers at the Scandinavian Community Centre in Burnaby. Her essay on the development of autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV’s) for oil spill response was inspired.
This fall, Morgan will begin her studies at Dalhousie University, where she will pursue a degree in environmental sciences. Morgan is actively involved with the charitable organization One Mission based in Puerto Penasco, Mexico. One Mission is a community development organization providing people in poverty with the opportunity to earn a house by serving their community.
