Bases
Response bases serve as operational centres where staff and equipment are maintained in a state of readiness. WCMRC’s bases are located across B.C.'s coast.
Vancouver
The Vancouver satellite base is located at the bottom of Commissioner Street near New Brighton Park. It reports to South Coast operations and operates 24/7. It houses personnel, response barges, skimming vessels, landing craft and workboats.
Fraser River
The Fraser River satellite base is located in Richmond near Annacis Island and reports to South Coast operations. It houses personnel, mini-barges, landing craft and workboats.
Coquitlam
The Coquitlam Response Base is the hub for WCMRC’s South Coast operations. It houses personnel and equipment to support South Coast operations.
Nanaimo
Located on Nanaimo Port Authority property, the base function as the hub for all the satellite bases on Vancouver Island. It houses personnel, a response barge, a coastal response vessel, landing craft and workboats. The base also operates as the main repair shop and training centre for all Vancouver Island response staff while supporting Vancouver Island area management and administration functions.
Sidney
The Sidney satellite base operates 24/7 and reports to Vancouver Island operations in Nanaimo. The base houses personnel, a skimming vessel, landing craft and workboats. The base serves as an important rapid response site for spills in the Gulf Islands. Moorage for the vessels are located at Van Isle Marina and warehouse facilities are located at Victoria International Airport.
Beecher Bay
The Beecher Bay satellite base is located on Sc’ianew First Nation territory and reports to Vancouver Island operations in Nanaimo. It houses personnel, a skimming vessel, a coastal response vessel, landing craft and workboats.
Port Alberni
The Port Alberni response base is the primary spill response centre for spills on the west side of Vancouver Island and is home to a warehouse/office and seven response vessels moored at new purpose-built moorage at Water Street Dock. Another two vessels are forward stationed in Ucluelet. It is a satellite base and reports to Vancouver Island operations in Nanaimo.
Prince Rupert
Prince Rupert serves as the main hub for WCMRC’s North Coast operations, and includes an office, warehouse and moorage facilities. It houses 10 personnel and a skimming vessel, landing craft and workboats.
