Operations Area Manager


Western Canada Marine Response Corporation (WCMRC) is a Transport Canada certified Response Organization, whose mandate is to ensure there is a state of preparedness in place and to mitigate the impact when an oil spill occurs. This includes the protection of wildlife, economic and environmental sensitivities, and the safety of both the responders and the public.

WCMRC is seeking a Full-Time Operations Area Manager to join our team in Coquitlam, B.C.

Reporting to the Director of Operations, the Operations Area Manager will be responsible for:

  • Oversee the planning and management of area activities, including daily operations, spill response, training of in-house and contract personnel, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Apply and maintain correct operating methods and procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to corporate standards and practices.
  • Recruit, train and develop area personnel, and manage and evaluate performance, focusing on performance feedback, coaching, and team building.
  • Develop and maintain the area’s annual operating budget.
  • Develop and implement team initiatives and continuous improvement strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with First Nations, government agencies and the surrounding community.
  • Liaise with internal departments to support corporate objectives and assist with response operations in other areas, as required.
  • Work in accordance with all legal requirements, attend and complete all required health and safety training, report all accidents, and take all necessary precautions to ensure personal safety and the safety of others.

To be successful in this role you will have completed a post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field.  You will also have a minimum of 7 to 10 years of related business experience, with expertise in the areas of emergency response, marine navigation, and marine equipment maintenance.  This role will require demonstrated strong decision making and leadership abilities. In addition, proficient computer skills with the ability to effectively utilize MS Office applications and other operational software applications, including the use of mobile devices. A Class 5 Drivers License is a requirement.

Salary range: $132,600 – $156,000 a year.
